Acne Prevention

Here are some tips on acne prevention.  By taking a pro-active stand, you will have a better chance to ward off the onset of acne. Even if you previously had acne, taking these steps will help to prevent re-ocurrence of acne.

* By now, you should know the causes of acne.  If not, take a look at this article first. The major cause of acne is hormonal changes which is the excess production of sebum (oil) which in turn mixes with bacteria and blocks your skin pores.  An acne prevention method is to exfoliate the skin. This allows you to remove dead skin cells and bacteria from the pores.  Basically you are keeping the pores clean thereby preventing buildup of sebum and bacteria which will lead to acne.  So look for acne products that provides skin exfoliation.

* Maintain a balanced diet containing lots of fruits and vegetables.  While this will not fight off acne directly, this acne prevention method will keep the body in a healthy state to fight off infections and bacteria.

* If your skin is prone to dryness and rough after washing, use a oil-free skin moisturizer. Avoid products containing alcohol as it is not good for your skin.

* Once you have found the right medication/treatment for your acne, stay with it.  Don’t start trying other medications.

* Take multivitamins to maintain a good level of nutrients.

* Take chromium supplement once a day to treat and heal pimples.

* Take vitamin A to help reduce excess sebum production and provides skin protection.

* Drink a lot of water. There is some benefit about drinking 6-8 cups of water a day.  This acne prevention method helps to keep your skin hydrated and clean.

* If you wear makeup, try to select water-based product and not oil-based. Look for products that is non-comedogenic (does not clog pores).

* If you have long oily hair, try keeping it from touching your face.

* Try not to touch your face too much with your hands.  If your hands are not clean, it may contains bacteria that will aid in the formation of acne.

* Take a shower after workouts especially if you were wearing skin tight uniform.  The friction of the tight lcothing against the skin is another acne causing condition.  Take a shower anyways to wash away the body odor and sweat.

*If you are a stressful person, the side effects of being stressed is the adrenal glands increases the production of sebum.  This, as you know, leads to acne.  The acne prevention method is to learn how to de-stress yourself.

In summary, the main point of acne prevention is to take good care of your skin, your body, and your lifestyle.
